    Mini-Sentinel modular programs (MPs) are SAS programs designed to run against the Mini-Sentinel Common Data Model (MSCDM). They allow rapid implementation of standard queries across the Mini-Sentinel Distributed Database (MSDD). The programs can be customized using various input parameters that define medical product exposures, diagnoses, date ranges, age ranges, and other implementation details. Output contains summary-level counts (e.g., number of members exposed, number of members with a specific diagnosis/condition) stratified by various parameters (e.g., age group, sex, year). It also includes metrics on denominators and eligible member days associated with each result stratum, allowing for the calculation of proportions and rates.

    Modular Program #3 characterizes episodes of incident use of specified medical product exposures (defined using the MSCDM outpatient pharmacy dispensing and procedure tables), and examines the occurrence of events (defined using the MSCDM procedure or diagnosis tables) during episodes of use. Example: the number of incident diagnoses of rhabdomyolysis during new treatment with a statin. The number of incident episodes of statin treatment and number of newly treated members are reported by year, age group, and sex. Cohort can be restricted to members with or without pre-existing condition(s). Results can be stratified by Charlson Comorbidity Index score, number of prior medical utilization visits, and/or change in body mass index (BMI). A cohort attrition table is automatically generated, detailing the number of members excluded by each selection criterion.
