Methods for Systematic Reviews of Administrative Database Studies Capturing Health Outcomes of Interest

This article provides an overview of methods used to conduct systematic reviews for the FDA’s Mini-Sentinel/PRISM project. The reviews summarize the literature describing algorithms to identify health outcomes in administrative and claims data, and focus on the validity of algorithms based on administrative claims data as compared to reference standards such as diagnoses in medical records.
